Visible position is what stops people leaving

Readers abandon tutorials when they cannot tell how long the tutorial is. A filled rail answers that on every frame, so the decision to continue gets made once rather than at each slide.

Numbers also make the deck usable later. Somebody who screenshots step four knows what it is out of context, which is why this format gets saved more than it gets liked.

Writing steps people can follow

Start each step with a verb and keep it to one action. Two actions in one step is where instructions break, because the reader completes the first and loses the second.

Between five and eight steps is the range that works. Fewer looks like it skipped something, and beyond eight the reader stops treating it as instructions and starts treating it as reading.

Begin every step with a verb, and put exactly one action in it.
Keep the deck between five and eight steps.
Say what the finished result looks like on the last slide.
Make each step readable alone, since saved slides get revisited out of order.
