A marked line is an instruction to read it

Attention on a phone lasts about as long as it takes to decide whether a slide is worth reading. A highlighted line removes that decision, because the eye goes to the marked words automatically.

Leaving the surrounding text pale is what makes it work. Contrast is the whole mechanic, so a slide where everything is emphasised is a slide where nothing is.

Quotes, notes and takeaways

Book notes are the natural fit: the sentence you underlined plus your own reaction underneath. Client quotes, review lines and interview answers work the same way.

Attribute quotes on the same slide as the words. A quote whose author appears two slides later gets screenshotted without them, and then it circulates as yours.

Before you export

Highlight one line per slide. Two marked lines cancel each other out.
Put your reaction under the quote rather than inside it.
Attribute a quote on the slide that shows it.
Keep highlighted lines short enough to read without wrapping twice.
