Instagram carousel generator
An Instagram carousel generator builds the images behind a swipeable Instagram post. This one exports at 1080x1350, the portrait size Instagram shows without cropping, and keeps type, spacing and colour identical on every slide so the post reads as one piece.
- Bluesky4
- X (Twitter)4
- Instagram10
- Facebook20
- LinkedIn20
- Threads20
- TikTok35
5 slides is over the limit on Bluesky (4) and X (Twitter) (4). Those posts get rejected rather than trimmed, so hide or remove some, or split the carousel across more than one post.
This carousel lives in this browser. An account keeps it.
Everything you have typed here is stored on this device only, so it is gone the moment you clear your browser or switch to your phone. With a PublishQ account it belongs to you instead:
- Your carousels are saved, so you can come back and edit them.
- The images you upload stay in your media library.
- Your logo is stored once and reused on every carousel.
- Brand name, handle, and colours stop being retyped.
- Publish straight to every social account you connect — no downloading, no second tab.
The Instagram carousel sizes worth knowing
Instagram shows feed images up to 4:5, so 1080x1350 is the biggest footprint you can take without a crop. Square still works, it just gives away height. Anything taller than 4:5 gets cut in the feed even though it looked right while you were making it.
One carousel holds ten items, and every item is shown at the ratio of the first one. Portrait first slide plus a square fourth slide means the fourth gets padded or trimmed to match. This generator locks the whole deck to one canvas so that cannot happen.
Captions go to 2,200 characters and roughly the first 125 show before the "more" link. Put the hook in that first line. The rest of the caption is for people you have already convinced.
Why Instagram carousels still get the most reach
Instagram watches how long people stay with a post and whether they touch it. A carousel collects both by design, because each swipe is time and a deliberate action at once. That is the mechanism behind carousels out-reaching single images with the same content.
Instagram will also reshow a carousel with a later slide as the cover to people who did not engage the first time. You effectively get more than one attempt at the same audience. A single photo gets one.
Saves matter more than likes here. The decks people save are the complete ones: a checklist they will run through later, a process they want to copy. A saved post keeps circulating for weeks.
Writing an Instagram carousel that reaches slide ten
Design the cover as a thumbnail. It has to be legible in the grid and in a fast feed, so a few large words beat a full sentence.
Put a swipe cue on the cover, then leave each slide slightly unfinished at the bottom. The reader should always sense there is one more thing.
Keep your handle and logo small, in the same corner, on every slide. That way it survives a screenshot without fighting the content.
Before you export
- Use 1080x1350 unless you have a reason not to. It is the largest uncropped feed size.
- Set the ratio before you export. Instagram forces every slide to match the first one.
- Front load the caption, because only the first line or so shows before "more".
- Leave space at the bottom of each slide so the dot indicators do not land on your text.
- Six to ten slides is the sweet spot. Under four rarely justifies a carousel and ten is the ceiling.

— me 👋
Hi, I'm Alexandro 👋
I left my Software Engineer role at Amazon to build tools that solve real problems — the kind big companies ignore because they read spreadsheets instead of using their own products.
I was spending over an hour daily just scheduling 2 shorts across 3 platforms — logging in, reformatting, uploading one by one. That felt broken. So I built PublishQ . Now I create 4 shorts in 3 minutes and schedule them to 4 platforms in under 30 seconds.
PublishQ is bootstrapped. No investors, no vanity metrics. I build what actually helps you — because I use it every day myself.
Thank you,
Alexandro
