A needle creates suspense a percentage cannot

Written as a number, ninety percent is information. Drawn as a needle nearly at the end of its sweep, it is tension, and tension is what makes somebody swipe once more to see it arrive.

The dial also makes the deck one object instead of a set of slides. Every frame is the same instrument at a different reading, so the deck feels continuous even when the topics are not.

What to put on the dial

Anything that moves toward a target: revenue against a goal, a fitness plan, how far a project got, how much of a book you have written, a readiness score for a decision.

Say what the dial measures on the opening slide and never change it. A gauge that quietly switches units halfway through is the fastest way to lose a reader's trust in the numbers.

Before you export

Name the unit on the first slide and keep it for the whole deck.
Move the needle by a visible amount each slide, or the format has nothing to show.
Use the supporting line to explain what caused the movement.
Land the needle at a meaningful reading on the final slide.
