Floors are the clearest way to show levels
Levels are hard to draw. A lift panel solves it in one image: the floors are stacked, the current one is lit, and the reader can see both how far they have come and what is above them.
It gives a deck about skill or maturity somewhere to stand. Instead of asserting that a reader is at stage two, the panel shows stage two in context, which is far less patronising.
Ladders worth climbing
Skill progressions, pricing tiers, maturity models, a career path, stages of a habit. Anything where the order is not just a sequence but a height.
Name floors like destinations rather than numbers. A floor called manual copy paste is far more useful than a floor called level two, and it makes the climb legible without a legend.
Before you export
- Name each floor after where it takes the reader, not just its number.
- Keep the ladder to five or six floors so the panel stays readable.
- Say what changes between floors in the supporting line.
- Put the reader somewhere real on the first slide, usually the ground floor.
