Four images, one grid, no swipe

A post on X holds four images. They are shown as a grid, cropped to fit it, and tapping one opens the full image with left and right arrows. So the reader sees four thumbnails at once, then browses. There is no forced order the way there is in a swipe.

The consequence is worth taking seriously: your slides are read out of order. Build four that each stand alone, and do not write "as I said on slide two".

Crops in the grid are aggressive. Two images side by side get taller narrow tiles, four get near squares. Anything at the edge of a slide is at risk until the reader taps in.

When to use images and when to use a thread

A thread is better for an argument that has to unfold in order. Four images are better for a set: four mistakes, four screenshots, four numbers, four before-and-afters. If your content collapses when read out of sequence, write the thread.

Images do have one clear advantage on X. They stop the scroll harder than text, and they are much harder to skim past than a first tweet with a "1/9" on the end.

You can also do both. Four images as the opening post, then a reply thread for anyone who wants the long version.

X image sizes that survive the grid

Portrait 4:5 at 1080x1350 is a good default because it holds up when the grid makes tiles taller than they are wide. Square 1080x1080 is the safest choice if you want the grid to look even.

Keep the type large. The grid thumbnail is the first and sometimes only view, and X compresses images fairly hard, so thin light type comes out mushy.

Before you export

Build exactly four slides, because that is what one post on X will take.
Make each slide independent. Readers open them in whatever order they like.
Keep text well inside the frame so the grid crop cannot eat it.
Use heavier type than you would elsewhere, since X compresses images noticeably.
