How TikTok photo posts differ from a feed carousel

A TikTok photo post is full screen and vertical, sits in the same For You feed as video, and carries a sound. People swipe it with a thumb at the same speed they scroll video, so the slides have to work at a glance and in the dark.

That changes the writing. There is no polite scanning here. Big type, one idea, high contrast. A slide that would be fine on LinkedIn at 4:5 looks tiny and chatty when it is competing with video.

The upside is that photo posts often travel further than video for the same effort, because they are cheap to make and the algorithm treats them like any other post. A deck of ten screens can be written in the time a single clip takes to film.

TikTok photo carousel size and limits

Use 1080x1920, which is 9:16, so the slide fills the screen. This generator preselects it. A square image gets shown with large empty bands on a phone, which is the fastest way to look like a reposted Instagram graphic.

A photo post takes up to 35 images. That is far more than anyone should use. Somewhere between six and twelve keeps the pace, and the ten slide ceiling here means the same deck also fits Instagram if you want to post it twice.

Leave the bottom third fairly clear. The caption, the sound name and the interface buttons all sit there, and text underneath them is text nobody reads.

Sound, captions and the first frame

Pick the sound before you write. A trending sound sets the pace people expect to swipe at, and it decides whether your slides should be punchy or slow.

The first frame is the whole post as far as reach goes. Make it a claim, a number or a question, in the largest type you can get away with.

Captions are short on TikTok, so do not hide anything important there. If it matters, it belongs on a slide.

Before you export

Export at 9:16 so the slides fill a phone screen instead of floating in the middle.
Write for a moving thumb: a handful of large words per slide, nothing subtle.
Keep the bottom third clear of text, because the caption and buttons live there.
Choose the sound first and let it set the rhythm of the deck.
