X (Twitter) post previewer
An X post previewer shows the tweet as a timeline renders it: your text at the real width, the photo grid X builds from your images, and the engagement row underneath. It also counts characters the way X counts them, which is not the way your text editor does.

X does not count characters the way you do
The limit is 280, or 25,000 with Premium, but the count is weighted. Any URL counts as 23 characters no matter how long it is, so shortening a link buys you nothing. Emoji and most non-Latin characters count as two. A post that reads as 270 characters in a text editor can be over the limit on X and under it in your head.
This previewer runs the same weighting X publishes, so the number you see is the number X will apply. It is the one platform here where the character count itself is a formatting problem rather than a writing one.
Photos are cropped by the grid, not by you
One photo keeps its own shape. Two, three or four go into a grid, and the tiles in that grid are a fixed height, so tall images lose their top and bottom and wide ones lose their sides. The crop is centred, which is fine for a landscape and unkind to a screenshot with text at the bottom.
Four is the cap on X. A fifth image is not a fifth tile, it is a rejected post, so a deck built for Instagram has to be split before it can go here.
Before you publish
- Assume 23 characters for every link, however short it looks.
- Check screenshots in the grid view. Text near the bottom edge of an image is the first thing the tile crop removes.
- Four photos maximum. Split anything longer into a thread instead of trimming it.
- Read the first line as if it were the whole post. In a timeline that is often all it is.

— me 👋
Hi, I'm Alexandro 👋
I left my Software Engineer role at Amazon to build tools that solve real problems — the kind big companies ignore because they read spreadsheets instead of using their own products.
I was spending over an hour daily just scheduling 2 shorts across 3 platforms — logging in, reformatting, uploading one by one. That felt broken. So I built PublishQ . Now I create 4 shorts in 3 minutes and schedule them to 4 platforms in under 30 seconds.
PublishQ is bootstrapped. No investors, no vanity metrics. I build what actually helps you — because I use it every day myself.
Thank you,
Alexandro
