YouTube post previewer
A YouTube post previewer shows the two things a viewer sees before they watch anything: the thumbnail with your title beside it, and the Short with YouTube’s interface over the top. Both truncate, and both decide whether the video gets opened at all.

You do not choose whether it is a Short
YouTube classifies an upload as a Short when it is vertical and under three minutes. There is no switch for it. That means the same file can end up in a feed you did not design for, which is worth seeing before you upload rather than after.
The three minute figure is current, by the way. Shorts used to be capped at 60 seconds and a lot of advice still says so. Shorts also top out at 1080p, so a 4K master gains you nothing there.
Titles, descriptions and the blurred bars
A title takes 100 characters and the search result shows fewer than that, so the words that matter belong at the front. The description holds 5,000 characters and only the first two lines appear before "more". Tags share a 500 character budget between them.
The detail most people get wrong: a horizontal video in the Shorts feed is not letterboxed with black bars. YouTube fills the top and bottom with a blurred copy of your own frame. It looks softer and cheaper than black bars would, and it is another reason to shoot vertical for Shorts rather than cropping later.
Before you publish
- Put the searchable words in the first half of the title. The rest is often cut in a result list.
- Write the first two lines of the description as if they were the whole thing. That is what shows before "more".
- Upload vertical for Shorts. A horizontal file gets blurred bands top and bottom, not clean black ones.
- Keep text out of the bottom right of a thumbnail. The duration badge sits there.

— me 👋
Hi, I'm Alexandro 👋
I left my Software Engineer role at Amazon to build tools that solve real problems — the kind big companies ignore because they read spreadsheets instead of using their own products.
I was spending over an hour daily just scheduling 2 shorts across 3 platforms — logging in, reformatting, uploading one by one. That felt broken. So I built PublishQ . Now I create 4 shorts in 3 minutes and schedule them to 4 platforms in under 30 seconds.
PublishQ is bootstrapped. No investors, no vanity metrics. I build what actually helps you — because I use it every day myself.
Thank you,
Alexandro
