Common publishing errors

LinkedIn publishing errors

Find the returned code or the closest matching failure below, then fix the cause before retrying the post.

400 Bad Request

LinkedIn could not parse or validate the request URL or body.

Fix: Check the JSON, URNs, required fields, and the current Posts API examples.

401 Unauthorized

The OAuth token is missing, invalid, expired, or revoked.

Fix: Refresh or reconnect the LinkedIn account and send the token as a Bearer credential.

403 Access Denied

The token lacks a required scope or the member cannot administer the target page.

Fix: Request the publishing scope and verify access to the person or organization URN.

429 Rate Limit

LinkedIn’s resource-level throttle limit has been reached.

Fix: Reduce duplicate calls and retry after the rate window resets.

422 Duplicate Content

LinkedIn found the same or very similar content in an earlier post from this account.

Fix: Rewrite the post rather than making a small wording change. LinkedIn can reject lightly rephrased duplicates too.

Cannot mix media types (400)

The post combines images and video in a media arrangement LinkedIn does not accept.

Fix: Choose one media mode supported by PublishQ: an image set or one video.

PROCESSING_FAILED

LinkedIn accepted the video upload but could not finish processing it.

Fix: Re-encode the video as H.264 MP4 and check its duration, frame rate, and aspect ratio before uploading again.

Why LinkedIn uploads fail

  • An image upload reports success, but an extreme pixel count prevents the post from appearing.
  • A post mixes images with video instead of using one supported media mode.
  • A video is not MP4 or falls outside the 75 KB, 3-second, or 30-minute bounds.

What PublishQ handles

  • Prepares each image into the best version LinkedIn accepts, converting the format, resizing high-resolution photos that exceed LinkedIn’s limits, and compressing oversized images, so you never have to edit a photo first.
  • Validates image/video exclusivity and LinkedIn file constraints.
  • Supports both personal profiles and administered company pages through one posting API.
