Social media image sizes, video specs, and posting limits

Choose a platform
Each guide opens with useful default sizes, then lists the limits enforced by the platform API.
YouTube limits
YouTube accepts video uploads, not image posts. Use 16:9 for a standard video. YouTube treats a vertical video up to 3 minutes long as a Short.

TikTok limits
TikTok accepts one video or a photo carousel, never both in the same post. Video dimensions can range from 360px to 4096px, while carousel photos are limited to JPEG or WebP and 20 MB each.

X (Twitter) limits
X supports up to four photos, one video, or one GIF per post, but those media types cannot be mixed. The API does not require one fixed static-image resolution. PublishQ automatically resizes very high-resolution images to fit.

LinkedIn limits
LinkedIn accepts up to 20 photos or GIFs, or one MP4 video. An image must contain fewer than 36,152,320 pixels. PublishQ automatically resizes very high-resolution images to fit.

Instagram limits
Instagram image failures are usually caused by aspect ratio, not a large square resolution. Feed and carousel images must stay between 9:16 and 16:9, with 4:5 recommended for portrait feed posts; Instagram can downscale wider supported images during processing.

Facebook limits
Facebook’s Page API documents file formats and byte limits, not one fixed photo resolution. PublishQ automatically resizes very high-resolution images to fit.

Threads limits
Threads accepts text, images, videos, and mixed carousels. Its API can rescale images during processing, so the key constraints are file size, supported format, aspect ratio, carousel count, and the rolling daily publishing quota.

Bluesky limits
Bluesky supports up to four images or one MP4 video, but images and video cannot be mixed. The API records each image’s aspect ratio. PublishQ automatically resizes very high-resolution images to fit.

Convert the format
If a platform does not accept the image format, we convert it to one that works, such as PNG to JPEG or WebP, and keep transparency when the target format supports it.
Resize the resolution
If an image is higher resolution than a platform allows, we scale it down while preserving the aspect ratio, so it uploads and displays cleanly.
Compress the size
If an image is over the size limit a platform allows, we compress it as much as we can to fit while keeping the quality as high as possible.
Only the transformations a platform actually needs are applied, and your original upload is never modified.
